Update on Need for Legislative Action Alerts

During the next few days the Wisconsin Senate is expected vote on the future of the Government Accountability Board (GAB). You can make a difference!

SB 294 would return the Government Accountability Board, which oversees Wisconsin elections, into two bi-partisan commissions—the old structure that led to corruption in Wisconsin and at the federal level is deadlocked and ineffective.

Three current Republican Senators voted for the establishment of the GAB; their votes are crucial to its retention. They are Sheila Harsdorf, Luther Olsen, and Robert Cowles.

Sen. Harsdorf represents Senate District 10, an area that includes Menomonie, Luck, Baldwin, River Falls, New Richmond, Siren, and Grantburg. Sen. Cowles represents District 2: Kaukauna, Shawano, Ashwaubenon, and part of Green Bay. Sen. Olsen represents District 14: Waupaca, Markesan, Lodi, Ripon, and Green Lake.

Two other senators may be influenced to vote against this bill:  Senator Marklein, who represents District 17, which includes the Platteville/Richland Center/Spring Green/Dodgeville area; and Senator Petrowksi, who represents District 29: the Hayward/Marshfield/Wausau area.
You probably know one person who lives in their districts. (Think: A cousin, an old roommate, someone you used to work with, your former babysitter.)

Please call that individual and ask them to contact their Senator about this crucial issue. Background information can be found here at the LWV of Wisconsin site.
