The proposed Bishop's Bay application for an urban service extension is on the February 11 agenda of the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission.
At the January meeting it was one vote short of the 8 votes needed for passage.
The League is one of the several environmentalist groups that opposes this new development that would consume some 900 acres of open space and farmland across from Governor Nelson State Park and just east of the Benedictine Monastery on County Trunk M.
Opponents hope to influence the commissioners from the City of Madison to vote against the proposal. In support of the League's position, please let Commissioners Larry Palm and / or Curt Brink know that you think the increased impervious surfaces that development creates are likely to cause flooding in Lake Mendota and downstream through the four-lake system. Note: The name "Bishop's Bay" is confusing because there is already a development and golf course by that name. The present application was initiated by Terrence Wall for an adjacent area between County trunk M and Oncken Road proposed for development.
